We got back a couple of days ago from a lovely, relaxing, fun vacation. Hooray!
My brother, Robert, has a cabin in Woodland, Utah. It is up in a canyon east of Kamas in a beautiful, peaceful area. He very generously let us use his cabin this past week and it was wonderful! Rick and Richard and I and our friend Lori met Robert and Candi in Kamas on Monday evening, where we had dinner and visited and got all the info about the cabin, along with the keys. We got to the cabin around dusk, hauled all our stuff in and got it put away, then went outside and sat and visited and looked at the stars for a very long time. We saw a couple of meteors and just enjoyed seeing the stars from a place that has not so many lights, so you can see the stars better. It was beautiful.

On Tuesday we walked around the cabin area and then took a walk along the Provo River, through another cabin area. We saw some deer and lots of squirrels. It was leisurely and fun. In the afternoon Annie and her children came, so we visited with them while we waited for Tina to come. Unfortunately, we had a miscommunication with Tina and she kind of got lost. Or she lost us. Or something. Anyway, we finally found each other and then it was time for Lori to go home. Sad, but she had a nice time. Later in the evening our friends Mike and Elsie and two of their grandsons, Parker and Braden, came. All the adults stayed up late visiting and looking at the stars.
On Wednesday Annie and Tina went to Park City to shop the outlets, so the rest of us (except Richard, who claimed he “hates outdoors”) went to Mirror Lake in the Uintahs. It was gorgeous and wonderful. While we were there we had a picnic and Autumn and Wilder and Parker and Braden played in the lake. Wilder, sadly, went in with his shoes and socks on, so when it came time for a walk/hike around the lake, his shoes were wet and he was cranky. But away we went and it turned out to be a beautiful, LONG, ultimately exhausting walk, especially for Rick and me. We are old. We are out of shape. The altitude was somewhat hard on Rick’s lungs. The trail was hard on my knees and also on Elsie’s. The older boys and Autumn had a great time, climbing on rocks and jumping around like mountain goats. The big boys were doing “Olympics” moves…twisting as they jumped off tall rocks, running higher and higher into the mountains, and blazing their own trails. Autumn thought she was big too, so she followed them around and tried hard to keep up with them. Wilder, sadly, got part way around and then began to cry because his feet hurt. I pulled his shoes off and discovered that he was developing a blister because of his wet shoes, so good old Mike picked Wilder up and carried him on his back for the rest of the way. Lucky for us we had Mike, because Wilder’s own grandparents were fairly useless.

On Thursday Mike and Elsie and the big boys went on the Heber Creeper, and then the rest of us met up with them at the Homestead in Midway and looked around there a little bit. Then we had milkshakes on the way back to the cabin. On Thursday afternoon, everyone went home except Rick and me and Richard. We spent Friday hanging out at the cabin and enjoying some “down” time. Richard watched DVDs most of the day, Rick worked on some music for an upcoming neighborhood party, and I finished a book I had been reading and did some knitting. In the afternoon Richard and I watched “Nim’s Island”. That evening Annie and her family came back, including Dan.

On Saturday it was time to pack up and go home, but before we did, Dan and Rick and I took our hot chocolate outside and sat by the river and talked for a couple of hours. We covered every topic and it was so fun! Finally we had to get breakfast, pack our stuff, and clean the cabin. We were sad to leave, but we have fun and wonderful memories of a great trip.
